The norm ISO 26000 was published this week by the International Standards Organization to give guidance to companies and the public sector organizations as to what social responsibility means, and how to implement it.
In the area of global governance there is a real rise of "soft power" and the ISO institution is one of the leaders, as their standards are voluntary, but widely followed in quality matters, environmental protection and now social responsibility. Their standards are based on broad stakeholder input and have widespread acceptance.
The press release and a download link to the norm can be found here.
Businesses should be more responsible with their services. Standards like these should be met because businesses are amenable to the clients they serve. To better ensure this, their internal organization must be transparent and must work to achieve a single goal.
