Silver lining

Some think the people only change under pressure - well then the Rupert Murdoch media-ethics scandal about the News of the World hacking will actually have a positive outcome. The UK media is sending around all kinds of ethics memos and a new Ethics Code is being promised.

This comes not a second too soon. The UK is a beacon in CSR and fair play (soccer hooligans aside), and the comportment of a lot of its media - or gutter press - was a real aberration. Hopefully, the government will force the media to clean up its act, if they don't do it pro-actively.

Moral Relativism

Very interesting opinion piece in The New York Times by Paul Boghossian, Silver Professor of Philosophy at New York University entitled "The Maze of Moral Relativism". One has to hang on to read it - but well worth the effort. Professor Boghossian aims the article at people who reject moral absolutes and illustrates his points with witches, etiquette and slurping noodles.
