The September issue of BizEthicsBuzz draws attention to a recent report by Peter Kinder of KLD Research and Analytics on the evolution of Socially Responsible Investing. Kinder claims there are three levels:
Value-based SRI, the original version, where investors aligned their portfolios with their beliefs.
Value-seeking SRI, where the investors identify social and environmental criteria that might affect the financial performance of a company, and thus the share price.
Value-enhancing SRI, where the investors use shareholder activism to maintain and increase the value of their investment. This is basically forcing "good" corporate governance.
The report can be found at www.kld.com/resources/papers/SRIevolving050901.pdf
