The US Senate rejected a proposal to establish an independent office of public integrity to investigate ethics complaints by a 67 to 30 vote. Trust in congressional officials is at an all time low - lawmakers and lobbyist and being convicted, which hurts all lawmakers reputations. The the Senate refuses to have an independent body cast an eye on their cosy practices and conflicts of interest. There is now sufficient proof that the US officials are incapable of policing themselves in a convincing and correct manner. They impose laws on the rest of the socio-economic field players, but themselves refuse to bend to best practices, good governance rules, and mostly common sense.
