More on Robert Nardelli's ouster from Home Depot in the New York Times, claiming it is a warning shot from shareholders to the Board of Directors. Maybe so. I do believe that withholding votes for the re-election of a Director is an important message sent to the Board (in this case it was for the head of the compensation committee). I really can stand behind the suggestion of having shareholders vote on compensation packages, even if it is only on an advisory basis. At least it lets the Board know what the shareholders are thinking, because in the order of things, the Board should be representing the shareholders, and not the management.
