About this blog

  • Thinking Ethics was a project launched in Geneva to foster the debate about ethics. A few friends, fed up with only reading about abuses in the media, decided to hold a forward-looking seminar on five subjects: ethics and performance, ethics and knowledge, ethics and consciousness, ethics and disobedience and ethics in real time. If moral has to do with right and wrong, then ethics is its application in society. We believe that people need to talk about the subject to determine the level of ethics they want. The book Thinking Ethics, a result of the seminar, is to start the discussion. This blog is a contribution to the conversation.

UN tackles climate change

The UN is holding a 2 day top level seminar on July 31, and Aug. 1st, 2007 on "Climate Change as a Global Challenge". Full programme here.

One would wish to believe for the sake of the Planet that they will reach a consensus, but I have doubts. Especially following the outcry from some of the newer European countries regarding allowed levels of CO2 emissions. The newer, developping countries are claiming they need to be allowed more CO2 for their industries to be able to catch up to the rest of Europe. They have a point, but I am not sure that this is acceptable given global warming. It will be interesting to see what comes out of the UN debates.
