About this blog

  • Thinking Ethics was a project launched in Geneva to foster the debate about ethics. A few friends, fed up with only reading about abuses in the media, decided to hold a forward-looking seminar on five subjects: ethics and performance, ethics and knowledge, ethics and consciousness, ethics and disobedience and ethics in real time. If moral has to do with right and wrong, then ethics is its application in society. We believe that people need to talk about the subject to determine the level of ethics they want. The book Thinking Ethics, a result of the seminar, is to start the discussion. This blog is a contribution to the conversation.

Gallup Integrity Ranking 2008

It will be no surprise, given the economic meltdown, that bankers have slumped in the integrity polls. Nurses and teachers are still high on the list. Good analysis on Ethics Newsline here. Full Gallup poll here.

Value voters

A Harris poll covered the "Value Voters" - who chose candidates based on moral values. Full press release here. Apparently, 51 % of voters polled claim to choose the candidate based on moral values. But these are not gay rights or abortion. Personal characteristics comes out tops, with honesty and integrity in first and second place. Then comes family values and religion, and issues like equal rights coming in third.
