The US has just passed the Captive Primate Safety Act that bans the interstate transport of primates as pets. An opinion piece in The New York Times here.
One could argue if this is for the safety of the primates or the humans. It does not address the issue if primates (us humans) should have other primates (chimps for example) as pets. While some people (legislators in Switzerland) are carrying on about the rights of plants, one can wonder about this legislative void concerning our closest cousins.
